Immutable Passport is a universal wallet built for games, designed to give web2 gamers access to web3 functionality without the friction of seed phrases, gas fees, or the backlash that had soured the gaming community on crypto.

I led consumer product UX at Immutable and worked on Passport as one of several efforts focused on bridging the two worlds.

The problem was not a design problem in the traditional sense. It was a context problem. Traditional wallets had onboarding drop-off rates over 70%. App store guidelines for crypto products were being written in real time. And web2 gamers had already formed a strong opinion about web3 gaming, most of it negative.

The work involved collaborating directly with Immutable's founders, a product and engineering team, and the game studios integrating Passport to design flows that felt native to the games themselves rather than bolted-on crypto experiences.

Passport now has 6M+ verified users and is connected to over 1,000 apps. It is one of the most widely adopted wallets in gaming and a proof point that web3 functionality can be delivered without asking gamers to become crypto users first.
