Prior to starting Halaska Studio.

Gallery Go was Google's gallery app built for Android Go devices, the low-cost phones that brought smartphones to first-time users across emerging markets.

The constraints were real. Limited storage. Intermittent connectivity. Users who had never owned a smartphone before, operating in languages and literacy contexts that most default Google apps weren't designed for.

I joined the team and drove the product to launch, working alongside a group attached to Google Photos to reshape the experience for a completely different set of users than the flagship app served.

The work included research trips to target countries to understand how people actually used their devices, what they stored, how they shared, and where the existing Photos app broke down.

The result was a gallery app that worked offline, used a fraction of the space, organized photos automatically, and shipped as the default on Android Go devices. It has since surpassed one billion downloads.
